Who reads your email?

It is also worth mentioning that Representative Lamar Smith (R-TX) is introducing a bill that require ISPs to monitor anyone’s surfing activity, emails, im conversations, etc..

Yep. Everything.

Now, I will admit there are bad things that happen on the internet. The bill is being disguised as an anti-child pornography law called SAFETY (Stopping Adults Facilitating the Exploitation of Today’s Youth) Act. That’s fine and dandy.

The problem exists when you have people who will be monitored and watched before having done anything wrong. So, you chat over IM with your friend about giving a blow job or the fact that you’re experimenting with anal? It might be recorded. You *could* be charged with sodomy, depending on where you live.

More of a problem than that, you would have records of every IM and webpage you’ve visited sitting on some server somewhere.. just waiting for some hacker or corrupt admin to sell your information to companies who would bombard you with crap.

But, oh won’t someone think of the children?

No. Your bratty kids shouldn’t be on the internet without your supervision anyway.

Seriously, the internet wouldn’t be a haven for pedophiles if it wasn’t so damn easy to dupe a kid in to thinking you are 12 and just want a friend and have kids actually believe you because the parents are too busy partying, getting high, playing Warcraft, or whatever to actually watch their kids.

But, that’s not my rant. No. I won’t get in to that now.

Copied from The Seminal (bookmark them, too!), here is contact information in regards to the bill:

There are two ways to make members of Congress listen to your concerns:

1. Inundate them with phone calls and emails.
2. Get negative media coverage of what they are trying to accomplish.

Please contact any or all of the people and organizations listed below. Let them know that the SAFETY ACT, as it is written, is not acceptable.
